Mission Statement

Mayflower Foundation!

The Mayflower Foundation is purely hypothetical at this time, and may be chartered in the future to raise funds for the the design, construction and provisioning of the Mayflower and/or other starships.

SRSR believes we should never give up on the earth, but we should prepare for the inevitable colonization of space.  The idea is to maintain a presence on earth and work for peace here as well as some day sponsor or at least participate in space exploration and colonization, hopefully unfettered by earth bound authorities and/or their interstellar emissaries.

With that distant goal in mind, SRSR invites likeminded individuals to join in an effort to start a non-profit corporation with the mission of raising the vast sum of money needed to build starships.  As outlandish as privately funded space colonization may sound, there are precedents, such as the colonization of the western hemisphere by Europeans and other more ancient endeavors by humans.

Such a mission might be launched in fifty years if enough people join together.  Most people will not live long enough to go on such an adventure, but cyronics and/or other "science fiction" technologies may make this dream less fanciful than most imagine.

Almost every advanced technology in existence was at one time considered science fiction, fantasy or an absurdity.  If our ancestors listened to the nay sayers of their day, we would still be living in caves, or roaming the savanah dodging lions and hyenas.

SRSR plans to research the; technical, legal and financials aspects and reporting its findings to interested and qualified potential astronauts... will you come aboard?

The goal is to eventually build several star ships, each accomodating several thousand people who will travel in a caravan to the outer reaches of the solar system and beyond.  Before embarking on such epic journeys, they will have to acquire the technology necessary to survive in space and to colonize distant planets, moons and other heavenly bodies... scientists around the world are already hard at work!

Contrails in the Indiana sky.

But why, you ask must this be a private venture?  Actually it needn't be, but there may be advantages to not being under the auspices of earthbound authorities.

Such venture may eventually be sponsored by churches, non-profits or joint stock company.  Some space colonies are likely to be capitalist in nature, while others may  be communal in nature.
